LDS Young Adult Study

, Sociology

The "LDS Young Adult Study" focuses on the educational, occupational, social and religious status of young adults, especially LDS young men who have not served full-time missions. The project studies these young adults by exploring their important life experiences.

The project is first determining why the majority of LDS young men in the United States do not serve full-time missions. It will then measure how much education non-missionaries have obtained, how their careers have progressed, their marital and family situation, their involvement in their communities and the LDS Church, and their self-esteem and happiness. Finally, the study will test a model to identify what factors encourage Church activity in young men who have not served missions.

Information obtained through this study will be used to suggest ways that parents, LDS Church leaders and other interested parties can help young adults mature into competent and happy adults.
