NIMH Ogden Adolescent Study

, Sociology

This project is studying how parents can negatively affect the development of their child's self-identity through emotional manipulation.

The study measures how adolescents function in different family, peer, community, school, religious, and social settings. To measure these factors, annual surveys of two groups of Ogden students (5 th and 8 th grade) and their parents are being taken. These students and their parents are being tracked across key transition stages of adolescence.

This project has been tested in a variety of foreign countries (Colombia, India, South Africa, Gaza, and Australia) with successful results. In the future the project will also be conducted in Bosnia, Switzerland and China.
