In response to widespread violence in families, this project seeks to reverse violence by teaching young children how to interact peacefully with others. It is based on the belief that peacemaking begins as an internal attitude.
The project is divided into the following steps: (1) understand how children interact peacefully with each other, (2) create a program to teach children interactive skills, and (3) develop methods to test the effectiveness of the program.
Non-violent attitudes and skills are being taught in 12 comprehensive lessons that have been divided into 50 sections. The results from these studies will be used to develop materials that will help families, schools, and other institutions teach peacemaking skills to children.
