Parental and Sibling Adaptation in Families of Children with Disabilities

, School of Family Life

This project focuses on the adaptation of parents and siblings in families of children with disabilities. If successful adaptation of family members is better understood, service providers will be more able to meet the needs of fathers, mothers, and siblings.

Three general topics will be explored by this study: (1) What are parental responses to a child with disabilities in a family? (2) What types of services are perceived as most helpful to parents of children with disabilities? (3) What patterns of stressors and coping responses can be identified from the responses of siblings of children with disabilities?
