Parent Management Training for the Whole Child

, Psychology

For the past two years, Dr. Wells has been working to develop a parent management training program that offers a more complete understanding of parenting skills than is traditionally found, one that is congruent with the Proclamation on the Family. Its importance lies in the potential for training not only therapists but parents as well.

The core dimensions the program wishes to offer training in are (1) warmth, or attachment, (2) control, or establishing a sense of discipline for the child in the family and, (3) respect for individuality.

In this stage of the project, Wells hopes to complete the revision of an accompanying manual, begin the construction of videotaped clips of specific parenting behaviors into the training, and develop and incorporate group process skills into the training of student therapists.
