An estimated 1.5 million children have at least one parent in prison. In 94% of these cases that parent is the father. Each year about 600,000 are released from prison and many will reconnect, (or attempt to reconnect) with spouses, former spouses and children. The purpose of this project is to isolate factors, such as the burden of state welfare programs and poverty, that may contribute to successful reentry into family life following incarceration.
