Marriage and family are not only centrally important to LDS belief but also are central to most of the world’s faiths, especially the “Abrahamic religions” of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Mormonism. This study will focus on the relationship between faith and family life in highly and moderately religious Jewish, Christian (including LDS), and Muslim two-parent families with an older adolescent or young adult child (15-25). Main issues of interest include perceptions of the aspects of one’s faith most meaningful to family life, how religious beliefs assist with family stresses and challenges, and perceptions of relative salience of sacred meanings versus secular meanings for strong marriages.
