With the high cost of health care, researchers have examined factors that predict increased health problems and higher health care utilization, with recent research suggesting that marital distress has a significant influence on health problems. The study will extend an investigation of 150 families in Porto Allegre, Brazil. The study will contribute to the existing literature by expanding the marriage and health literature to a Latino population and linking marriage and health to health care utilization.
