The purpose of this study is to provide a more sound empirical foundation for the development of resilience-enhancing strategies for youth and families by exploring the underlying dimensions of three factors believed to be important in predicting adaptive outcomes in youth under stress: (1) positive family environment, (2) supportive social networks, and (3) youth’s perceptions of self-efficacy. Although associations between these factors and adaptive behavior have been previously demonstrated, little is known of the individual dimensions of these factors that may be most important in buffering youth form the effects of stress.
