The presence of a child with a chronic condition in a family may offer more diverse challenges to family members than they might otherwise experience, since adults and children often have a variety of responses and methods of coping and adjusting. This project focuses on the adaptation of family members (the child with a chronic condition, parents, and siblings) in families raising a child who has a chronic condition. Family and individual factors related to both family and individual adaptation are investigated. The results of this study will provide information that can be used by practitioners (nurses, child life specialists, family life educators, and counselors) who work with these families.
