Mom, Catch Me a Rainbow -Improving Family Life of Children with Disabilities and Problem Behaviors by Teaching Parents Positive Behavior Supports

, Counseling Psychology

Families raising children with disabilities oftne experience increased levels of stress leading to poor adaptation. In an effort to assist families in Utah who are raising children with significant disabilities and challenging behavior, a partnership was formed in 2002 between the utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) and BYU. It consists of three phases where in Phase I, data has been collected regarding the severity of behavior problems in individuals with disabilities who are served by DSPD. In Phase II we served 75 of the approximately 125 families in Utah County who are on the "waiting list" for support services through DSPD. Phase III will include dissemination of our work, as we will upload relevant information to a website so parents who are unable to participate in the study will still have a benefit of accessing relevant information on one place.
