The Influence of Family Process on Child Development: A Brazilian Longitudinal Study
Richard B. Miller,
School of Family Life
Although there is substantial evidence that family process has a significant impact on the well-being of adults and children, little is known about family processes and its consequences in nonCaucasian families, especially those living outside of the United States. This study will extend an existing longitudinal study of 150 families living in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In collaboration with the Psychiatry Department at the Federal University do Rio Grande do Sul, a fourth wave of data will be collected that will provide data about the children’s overall functioning and school performance. Marital quality, parental functioning, and parental behaviors will be examined to see if they are predictors of child functioning in this Latino community sample.
