Empowering Mothers and Protecting Children: Succession Planning for Ugandan Households with AIDS

The purpose of this proposal are three-fold: (1) to provide education to parents, particularly those who have AIDS and anticipate leaving spouses and/or young child behind; (2) to facilitate will writing for parents who wish to participate, in order to appoint legal guardians for their young children and to bequeath property and personal effects; and (3) to publish both the process and findings form the project, in hopes of adding to the orphan care literature, and ultimately to assist in strengthening policies related to protecting the rights of orphans and widows.
