Transnational Adoption in Utah County
Charlie Morgan,
Sociology
Using in-depth interviews of parents who adopt children from foreign countries, and adults who have been adopted from foreign countries, we will examine the various processes of integration related to transnational adoptions in Utah County. We will be examining two key aspects of transnational adoptions: 1) How Families adjust to and socialize children who are adopted internationally; and 2) How these adopted immigrants integrate or fail to integrate into their new surroundings. The findings will shed much needed light on a complex and politically-charged issue as Utah and the United States see a rise in the number of children who are adopted from countries around the world.
